This remarkable innovation from Air Techniques, Inc. is now FDA approved and available for sale. Spectra is a lightweight, ergonomic, handheld digital imaging instrument that aids in detecting caries visually.
Spectra offers the latest technology in non-invasive digital imaging and state-of-the-art treatment as well as improved overall patient care.
Spectra operates using fluorescence technology. LED's project high-energy light onto the tooth surface causing cariogenic bacteria to fluoresce red and healthy enamel to fluoresce green. The captured data is sent to the computer and the live image is presented on the monitor. With Spectra, the dentist can identify the exact location of potential carious lesions on tooth surfaces.
